School Trip To Bear Mountain Turns Deadly For Brooklyn Teen
BEAR MOUNTAIN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Grief counselors will be on hand Tuesday, after a Brooklyn teenager drowned while on a school trip to Bear Mountain State Park.
According to police, the call of a possible drowning at Hessian Lake came in around 3 p.m.
Park Police and State Park Rangers responded and a dive team was called in to assist with the search effort.
Nearly an hour later, at 3:50 p.m., the body of a 16-year-old boy was pulled from the lake and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The student was on a class trip from Brooklyn International High School, where he was a freshman. His name has not be released.
The New York City Department of Education released a statement saying, "Our thoughts are with the family and school community during this difficult time."
The New York State Park Police and the Rockland County Medical Examiner's Office were investigating the incident.
