Scaffolding Scattered Across Roadway Snarls Traffic On Cross Bronx Expressway
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It was a tough Thursday morning commute for drivers on the Cross Bronx Expressway after scaffolding scattered across the roadway, snarling traffic for hours.
Chopper 2 was over the scene of the accident, which happened just before 6 a.m. in the westbound lanes underneath the Southern Boulevard overpass. Firefighters were seen carrying the pieces of metal off the road to clear it as quickly as possible.
One car was hit by the debris. Two people were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, CBS2's Natalie Duddridge reported.
The westbound side of the Cross Bronx Expressway was fully closed for over an hour. Delays then continued during the morning rush and also caused heavy eastbound delays stretching back across the George Washington Bridge.
It is unknown if the driver of the tractor trailer will face any charges or fines.
