Sarah Jessica Parker Steps In To Help Family Impacted By Yonkers Car Crash

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Actress Sarah Jessica Parker pitched in this week to help a Yonkers family in need.

As WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported, when the "Sex and the City" star heard of the fundraising auction for the Gill family in Yonkers, she quietly and graciously offered some of her own belongings.

"We have seven pairs of shoes, all signed," said Oliver Charles, a cousin to the Gill family. "We have two pretty fancy looking bags."

On Oct. 11, a runaway car struck and killed Kalie Gill, 15, and seriously injured Lindsey Gill, 13. Two others were also injured in the crash at the Yonkers Fair at Coyne Park.

The Gill family had recently moved to Yonkers from Ireland. Parker, who has a home in County Donegal, Ireland, with husband Matthew Broderick, shops at Charles' store, the Butcher's Fancy at 961 McLean Ave. in Yonkers.

"Well I just want to thank you, Sarah Jessica," Charles said. "You're really so generous and you're so nice."

Next Friday, a charity concert will be held for the family at St. Barnabas Church in Yonkers. A week from Sunday, an auction will be held at Rory Dolan's restaurant and bar, including tickets to the Super Bowl and the All-Ireland Football and Hurling Finals.

Lindsey Gill needs extensive rehab for her injuries. The goal is to raise enough to cover the hospital bills and rehab and start a college fund, Adams reported.
