Santana Ready To Go After Coming Off DL
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Oft-injured New York Mets' starter Johan Santana makes his much-anticipated return tonight at Citi Field after coming off the disabled list.
Santana will take the mound against the Atlanta Braves and is expected to throw around 90 pitches. His last major league start came on July 20.
It was disastrous outing, as Santana was hit hard and only lasted three innings before being placed on the DL with a sprained ankle.
Santana had a successful minor league appearance on August 5th. He only allowed one hit and pitched three shutout innings for the Brooklyn Cyclones.
After throwing 38 pitches for against the Auburn Doubledays, Santana worked in the bullpen to raise his total to 90.
The Mets are hoping that Santana can be stretched out to 90 pitches tonight at Citi Field.
