Sandy Continues To Impact Halloween Shopping 1 Year Later
NORTH BERGEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - There's a drop in sales of Halloween costumes this year in some areas hit hard by superstorm Sandy.
As WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported from Halloween City in North Bergen, N.J., costumes and decorations were still selling the day before the holiday.
The store manager said sales were normal this year, after taking a hit last year when Sandy essentially wiped out Halloween.

But it's a different story for seasonal stores along the Jersey Shore.
"As of this morning, about 44 percent off for Halloween," said Tony Schiavone, owner of Seasonal World in Clarksburg in central Jersey. "Seaside, Brick, Toms River, LBI."

A lot of Schiavone's customers are from those hard hit areas, so he said he's not surprised sales are down.
"Last year, the last three days when Sandy hit there was no Halloween, so I'm assuming most people still have the costumes left over from last year," Schiavone told Putney. "Just kind of reusing them, basically."
Schiavone said at least stores still had a lot of inventory from last year, so they didn't have to order much for this year.
Halloween 2011 was also impacted by that freak October snowstorm.
