Sales Tax Figures Up On Long Island; Comptroller Predicts Strong Holiday Sales

Automobile sales, home sales, and retail sales are all up in Nassau County, according to County Comptroller George Maragos.
He said the boost in sales means sales tax revenues have jumped over $30 million so far this year compared to last year in both Nassau and Suffolk.
"It means people are feeling good and they are out shopping," Maragos told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall. "I think that's also reflected in the Consumer Price Index, which has steadily risen and we're very happy there's a lot of people coming out to Nassau County to spend their dollars here and shop. We're ahead 4.9 percent over last year."
"We have great stores out here in Nassau County and we hope all of New Yorkers come out and visit us," he added.
He predicts very strong holiday sales.
"We look forward to having a very robust Christmas shopping season ahead of us and we should sustain or go a little higher by year end," he said.
