Rye Police Investigate Home Invasion Hoax

There was a report of a home invasion and hostage situation at 105 North Street in Rye on Wednesday.
Rye Brook police said they received two text messages on their line for the hearing impaired. The messages said that three men with a shotgun were inside the home and that a girl had been shot.
The person sending the messages claimed to hiding under a bed and barricaded in a bedroom.
Police surrounded the home and made a tactical entry. Inside, they found a woman and three teenagers. None of them was in any distress.
Police told the Journal News they didn't believe the occupants of the home were involved.
They said there was also a hangup 911 call and are investigating the source.
Nobody was hurt, but it would have been so easy for someone to have accidentally been hurt in a situation like this.
Also, calling in a false report of an emergency situation diverts resources from a potentially real emergency.
