Russia's Zvonareva Reaches 3rd Round At US Open
NEW YORK (AP) — Wimbledon runner-up Vera Zvonareva beat 94th-ranked Sabine Lisicki of Germany 6-1, 7-6 (5) Thursday in the second round of the US Open.
The No. 7-seeded Zvonareva now has made it to the third round at Flushing Meadows in seven of her eight trips to the tournament. But the Russian never has made it to the US Open quarterfinals.
Zvonareva is trying to follow up on her first Grand Slam final; she lost to Serena Williams at the All England Club in July.
Lisicki hasn't won consecutive matches in 2010. She missed five months with an injured left ankle.
