Rude Awakening: Car Crashes Into Sleeping Rockland County Teen's Room
CONGERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Rockland County teenager had his world come crashing down on Monday night, literally. A car blasted through the wall of his ground floor bedroom while he was relaxing after a long day of classes. His room is now a disaster, even by teenage standards.
Thirteen-year-old Jon Aguila grabbed his guitar and a comic book as he prepared to spend Tuesday night in a hotel after a late-model Mustang made an unannounced arrival.
"I'm lucky to be alive, thank God," Aguila told CBS2's Lou Young.
Police said that the 47-year-old driver was traveling on Ridge Road when he blacked out, left the road, crashed through several fences and finally through the wall of Aguila's bedroom.
Aguila said that there was no warning.
"I was next to the wall and everything just fell on me and I was under the car but it didn't run me over. I was just under it and I was just trying to get out, and after I got out I was standing here and there were two people yelling at the guy," he said.
Police said that a large air conditioner combined with the house foundation gave the Mustang enough lift to miss Aguila.
"He was a very lucky young man. It could have been worse. Just the way the car hit the foundation of the house and flew up," said Sgt. Harry Baumann of the Clarkstown Police Department.
Neighbors who saw the accident were sure that someone had been killed.
"You could see half the car sticking out of the house," said Anthony Lavina.
The driver told CBS 2's Young that he is relieved that no one was injured and has reached out to apologize to the boy and his family. Police said no charges were expected.
