Royal Dress Code: 'Smart Attire' Required By US Media Covering William And Kate
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Buckingham Palace is reminding American reporters about its dress code policy for covering the royal family when Prince William and Kate visit New York City next month.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be in the Big Apple from Dec. 7 to Dec. 9. Prince William will also make a stop in Washington, D.C.
According to the official website of the British monarchy, journalists wishing to cover royal engagements "should comply with the dress code on formal occasions out of respect for the guests of The Queen or any other member of the Royal Family."
"Smart attire for men includes the wearing of a jacket and tie and for women a trouser or skirt suit," the website states. "Those wearing jeans or trainers (sneakers) will not be admitted and casually dressed members of the media will be turned away. This also applies to technicians."

1010 WINS' Juliet Papa spoke with some of her colleagues about the royal dress code.
"My mother is from London, she came to the United States after World War II. If she was watching the coverage and for some reason saw me in any of the footage not dressed up, I'd be in trouble," 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck said.
1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria said she's rustling through her closet for some formal wear.
"It's a blue gown, but you know I'm concerned about creating a faux pas, a fashion faux pas, because it's going to clash with the black and yellow on our microphone flag," she said.
1010 WINS' Al Jones said he'll have to consult an etiquette book.
"There's not a log of etiquette when you're chasing politicians for quotes or perps for a picture," he said.
The royal couple will have a busy schedule during their trip.
In addition to attending various charity events, William and Kate will visit to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center.
William heads to Washington on Dec. 8 for a conference against the trade of illegal wildlife parts.
Meanwhile, Kate will tour a local child development center in New York City with First Lady Chirlane McCray and attend a lunch hosted by the British Consul General in New York.
That night, the two will be going to an NBA game.
The final stop will be the St. Andrews 600th anniversary dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
It's still unclear if Prince George will be tagging along for the trip. Kate is currently pregnant with their second child.
