Long Island School Security Guard Accused Of Filming 16-Year-Old Boy In Bathroom

ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island community is in shock after a high school security guard was accused of filming a student using the bathroom and posting the video to social media.

Police allege Daniel Williams, 24, who has been on the job at Roosevelt High School for two years, took video of a 16-year-old male student who was using the toilet inside a bathroom stall.

Police said Williams sent the footage to SnapChat, a popular mobile messaging app for images which self destruct after the receiver views them. But in this case, the video was captured and saved, CBS2's Jennifer McLogan reported.

It is now in the hands of Nassau County detectives.

"The individual, the 16 year old, was in a stall, and the defendant was able to tape this," Detective Lt. Richard Lebrun said.

Classmates of the alleged victim said the teen feels embarrassed and humiliated. They were also shocked at what Williams is being accused of.

"He was always chill and cool to us, but for him to record people in the bathroom, that is the last thing we would expect from him," Nicholas Williams said.

After the incident, the victim notified school administrators, who told CBS2 that Williams has been suspended with pay and ordered not to return to the school without approval.

"Mr. Williams is suspended with pay and is ordered not to return to school grounds unless he gets approval," the school said.

Some parents call that a slap on the wrist and wonder how Williams passed background checks.

"I am disgusted this is something that should go on file anyway," said parent Jessica Humphrey. "They have perpetrators who are on file for certain things that fall under this category. This is something we should be notified of so that we know that this person shouldn't be allowed within any of our school districts again."

Latoya Boyd said, "I do plan to speak now to the principal to find out exactly what is going on."

Williams' grandmother told McLogan that she does "not know anything that is going on."

The school said Williams had no prior arrests or incidents.

Some students believe this may have been a prank gone bad.

"It's really surprising actually cause I know the security guard personally and he's not a bad guy at all," student Cristian Erazo said. "He's actually a really nice guy, with everybody, All the students, teachers and it's just surprising that he did that."

Police are now wondering if there are additional victims.

Williams is charged with felony unlawful surveillance and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released on a desk appearance ticket and will appear in court on April 11.
