82-year-old woman in critical condition after Long Island house fire
ROOSEVELT, N.Y. -- A woman is in critical condition after a house caught fire on Long Island on Friday morning.
It happened around 8:45 a.m. at a home on East Raymond Avenue in Roosevelt.
Nassau County police say officers and firefighters had to break the rear wall of the home to rescue an 82-year-old woman. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
A 79-year-old man, who was outside the house when officers arrived, was taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. He was last reported to be in stable condition.
A police officer was also taken to a hospital to be treated for a leg injury.
The fire destroyed the home and damaged a neighboring house.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
