Rockland, NYC Residents Can Get Tax Break With Post-Storm Reassessment
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - Homeowners who experienced catastrophic damage by Tropical Storms Irene and Lee may soon have new recourse.

Christopher St. Lawrence, the supervisor of the town of Ramapo in Rockland County, says they're voting this week to opt into a New York state storm relief act signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
"If you've had over 50 percent loss of your property or more, you'll be able to get to a reassessment of your 2011 assessment," he said Wednesday.
However, if homeowners don't have their properties reassessed, the tax liability will be based on the value as of march 1, 2011.
Rockland is one of 33 counties, including the five in New York City, that can participate. In Rockland, people should visit their town assessor's office to apply for the tax refund.
