Rockland Lawmakers To Discuss Proposed NJ TRANSIT Cuts Thursday Night
NANUET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Rockland County lawmakers will hold a meeting Thursday night to discuss proposed NJ TRANSIT service cuts and fare hikes.
As WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported, the transit agency is considering cutting the 1:35 a.m. inbound train on the Montclair-Boonton Line and the 12:45 a.m. Hoboken departure on the Pascack Valley Line.
Cutting the Pascack Valley train would save about $400,000 for NJ TRANSIT in the 2016 fiscal year.

One rider told Murnane that Wednesday night's Rangers overtime playoff game points to a need.
"The only way they could get home then is to take the Bergen County train to Ramsey -- that's another half-hour back over here," the man said. "That late train, there's a lot of people who do work nights, and they are very upset. I know a few people."
The Rockland Legislature's Special Committee on Transit is meeting at 6:30 p.m. in New City. A public information session is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the New Brunswick Public Library in New Jersey.
NJ TRANSIT's hearings on the fare and service plan begin Monday.
Bus cuts and higher fares are also being considered.
Veronica Vanterpool, executive director of the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, said she wants to see a commitment to long-term capital funding.
"Making that investment yields significant economic benefits, not to mention environmental benefits and access to opportunity, etc.," she said.
