The card costs about a dollar a week for a family and it could save as much as $56 for an exam and cleaning, according to the county.
"Given the economy and people struggling, this is a way to help them. Preventative care and that includes dental care can really be important in the long term and preventing additional expenditures, costs, pain and the like," Vanderhoef said.
"By purchasing a County Dental Network Card, cardholders will have access to information they can use to locate dentists who have agreed to charge reduced fees for dental services," according to the county. "The program is not an insurance program, but is intended to assist patients for whom cost is a barrier to receiving dental treatment."
