Rockland County Giving Out Free Radon Kits
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Health officials are offering free radon testing kids to low income families and senior citizens in Rockland County.

Radon is a known carcinogen, particularly for lung cancer, and can be fixed, which is why Rockland County Health Commissioner Dr. Joan Fa'cell said they're trying to help residents.
"It is something that is recommended to be done periodically," Fa'cell said.
With January being Radon Awareness Month, Fa'cell said if you have radon in your home it can be dealt with.
"I was informed by our staff that does this that last year they had nine high readings out of 88 tests conducted. Those homes needed some form of remediation," Fa'cell said.
The kits were bought with money from the healthy neighborhoods grant.
Basements are generally the most common means of exposure, Fa'cell said.
