Rockland County Bids Farewell To County Executive Vanderhoef
NEW CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- After 20 years in office Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef is stepping down.
Vanderhoef announced that he would not seek re-election back in 2012. He served five four-year terms on the job.
The county executive said he plans to teach environmental law at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill and have a private law office.
Rockland County has faced serious financial problems over the last few years.
The county has had to borrow heavily and hike property taxes repeatedly to cover huge budget deficits. The state comptroller declared it the most fiscally stressed county in New York.
Rockland County Executive-elect Ed Day takes office on Jan. 1. Day has pledged to turn the county's fiscal situation around.
