Rockland County Awarded $1.5 Million Health Grant

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – The state of New York just awarded Rockland County a $1.5 million grant to bring new farmer's markets, community gardens and nutrition education classes to the county.

"They can promote campaigns for healthy eating," County Executive Scott Vanderhoff said.

The goal is to prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes and other chronis diseases, he added.

"So it's a direct outreach, a grant directly outreaching six specific communities in Rockland County," Vanderhoff said.

Those communities include Haverstraw, Monsey, Spring Valley, and West Haverstraw.

"It's really to help communities fight obesity. There are all sorts of things that go into healthy eating," he said.
