Robber Slams Into Cop, Cyclist Before Ditching Car And Running
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspected robber trying to escape in a car ran over a police officer and slammed into a bicyclist early Saturday, and ultimately ditched the car and got away after plowing into a dry cleaners in Kips Bay.
Two robbers accosted a man in the early morning hours at Seventh Avenue and 34th Street in the Garment District. They punched the man in the face and took his watch, police said.
One of the suspects ran off on foot and was not seen again, while the other jumped into a gold-colored sedan and got behind the wheel, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported. A Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officer happened to be present, and he tried to stop the car. But the suspect ran the officer over, police said.

The officer suffered foot and knee injuries.
The driver then brushed up against a pedestrian, who suffered minor injuries. He headed one block east on 34th Street to one-way northbound Sixth Avenue, where he turned the wrong way and headed south three blocks to one-way westbound 29th Street, where he turned east.
The driver made it east two blocks to Madison Avenue as he headed the wrong way down 29th Street, before he slammed into a man on a bicycle at 6:35 a.m., police said.
The cyclist was left with two broken legs, a broken arm, a broken pelvis and head trauma. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious condition, and had to undergo surgery, police said.
But the robber in the car kept going. He continued two more blocks on 29th Street to Lexington Avenue, where he knocked down a pole and crashed into a dry cleaner.
The suspect got out of the car and ran north on Lexington Avenue, police said. Neither he nor the suspect who fled after the robbery was in custody as of early Saturday afternoon.
