Roads Clear, But Dangerous In Westchester County
ARMONK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Roads were plowed and cleared in much of Westchester County following the blizzard early Saturday, but officials were still warning people to stay off the roads.
CBS 2's Alice Gainer reported on Main Street in Armonk, crews had cleared as much as 20 inches of snow. Some businesses were getting ready to reopen, and the manager of one Armonk business – the Bagel Emporium – had been out since 4 a.m. shoveling.
In some communities residents were pitching in and helping shovel their neighbor's driveways.
WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported the roads were also in good shape in Bronxville and Yonkers, but plows had locked many motorists into place.
Accumulation totaled 20 inches in Scarsdale, 17 in Mount Vernon and 18 in Bronxville, Haskell reported.
Westchester County Residets Out Enjoying The Snow
"A lot of heavy snow from the plows packing in the car. There was a lot of snow, more than I expected for sure," Bronxville resident Tim Cary told Haskell.
In Greenburgh, kids were sledding and throwing snowballs, while others took the opportunity to bring out their cross-country skis, Haskell reported.
Greenburgh resident Andrea Campana was out sledding with her 6-year-old daughter Avery.
"Oh, having a great time. It's tons of fun," Campana told Haskell. "Lots of sledding and kids and all that you could've hoped for for a snow day."
