Man Sentenced For Stabbing Another Driver To Death In Road Rage Incident
MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – A man who stabbed another driver to death in Westchester County was sentenced Wednesday to spend 14 years in prison, followed by five years probation.
Christian Walczyck, 22, of Lagrangeville, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter following the May 2017 attack on the Taconic State Parkway.
Authorities said he fatally stabbed 28-year-old Daniel Siino, of Hartsdale, during a dispute.
"I couldn't even begin to describe how sorry I am. Every single day I pray for you guys - every single day, every day. You have no idea how sorry I am," Walczyck said Wednesday.
Police said Walczyck and Siino were both driving south on the parkway when Walczyck pulled in front of Siino, cutting him off. Siino then tried to pass, but Walczyck allegedly wouldn't allow it.
Authorities said the men pulled over and exited their vehicles. Walczyck allegedly flashed a police badge and stabbed the victim twice in the chest.
"What he did was unfathomable, OK? He pretended to be an officer of the law to drop a man's guard, and then stabbed him not once but twice in the chest. That's disgusting," Siino's older brother, Joseph, told CBS2's Clark Fouraker outside court.
Before Walczyck left the courtroom in handcuffs, the judge had strong words for him.
"You put a hole in their hearts because of some ego issue that you have, some issue of low self-esteem that you suffer with. Look what you've done," Judge Barry Warhit said.
Two of Siino's family members read victim impact statements in court, and Walczyck also wrote the family a letter. The judge ordered him not to interact with them ever again.
"Your apologies mean nothing. You want to apologize? Go apologize to his little daughter who has no daddy, go apologize to my mother who talks to a tomb, go apologize to them," said Joseph Siino. "It means nothing."
Siino left behind a wife, who was with him when he stabbed, and young daughter.
