Road Closures And Mass Transit Service Disruptions Planned For 9/11 Observance
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Commuters can expect road closures and mass transit service disruptions during the annual observance of the 9/11 attacks on Sunday.

The MTA says there will be road closures in and around the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel from 12:01 a.m. Saturday, September 10 through 5 a.m. Monday, September 12.
Officials say drivers should expect delays, closures and detours in connection with 9/11 events at the World Trade Center site and should avoid the area if possible.
Road closures include:
When: Saturday, September 10 to Monday, September 12
Time: 11 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday
Location: Brooklyn-bound West Street
Description: Underpass will be closed
When: Saturday, September 10 t0 Sunday, September 11
Time: Starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday
Location: West Street will be closed from Albany Street north past the WTC site.
Description: Traffic leaving the Battery Tunnel will be detoured south to Battery Park or the Battery Park underpass.
When: Saturday, September 10 to Sunday, September 11
Time: Starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday
Location: Battery Park underpass from southbound FDR Drive will be closed.
Description: Drivers going to Brooklyn can access the tunnel through local streets.
When: Saturday, September 10
Time: Starting at 8 a.m.
Location: Southbound West Street – Eastern most lane
When: Saturday, September 10
Time: Starting at 8 a.m.
Location: Barclay Street from Washington Street to West Street and Murray Street from Greenwich Street to West Street.
When: Sunday, September 11
Time: Starting at 5 a.m.
Location: Drivers heading to heading Brooklyn will not be able to access the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel from West Street south of Albany Street.
When: Sunday, September 11
Time: 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Trinity Place exit will be closed
When: Sunday, September 11
Time: 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Location: Both directions through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel
Description: Frozen zones in lower Manhattan during President Obama's arrival and departure.
If vehicles need to access streets entering and exiting Battery Park City, directions are below:
North of marina
- From all points, proceed to North End Avenue
- North on North End Avenue to Chambers, Warren and Murray streets
- East on Chambers and Warren to West Street
South of marina
- From all points, proceed to South End Avenue
- South on South End Avenue to W. Thames Street
- East (left turn) on W. Thames Street to Battery Place
- South (right turn) on Battery Place

In addition to road closures, there will also be service disruptions for PATH and subway riders and detoured routes for city bus riders.
The Port Authority says PATH will run extra service on Sunday starting at 5 a.m. to the World Trade Center.
However, from 7 a.m. Sunday until 11 a.m., PATH service to the World Trade Center will be suspended.
Riders can take the Journal Square to 33rd Street train via Hoboken to get into the city and then take the subway to lower Manhattan.
There will also be some subway service disruptions.
The Cortlandt Street Station will be closed 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday during the 9/11 memorial service.
The MTA says riders can use Use the City Hall or Rector Street stations instead.
The N71 and N72 buses will be on detoured routes on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m.
They are being detoured on Hempstead Turnpike and will make stops along Stewart Avenue.
