Man Accused Of Slashing 2 Police Officers On Long Island
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Florida man has been arrested after authorities say he slashed two Long Island police officers as they tried to arrest him.
Robert Alan Vescio was arrested shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday at the Hyatt Hotel on East Main Street in Riverhead.
Officers were called because the 45-year-old wasn't a guest at the hotel and had been refusing to leave the lobby, Riverhead Town Police said.
When two officers approached him, they say Vescio threatened them. Officials say Vescio then allegedly pulled out a saw blade and slashed the two officers.
The officers were hospitalized with minor injuries. Vescio, of Inglewood, Florida, was arrested on assault, obstruction and trespassing charges.
He is being held on $50,000 bail.
