Construction Equipment Tips Over, Takes Down Power Lines In Ridgefield, N.J.
RIDGEFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A piece of construction equipment tipped over and took down power lines in Ridgefield, New Jersey Wednesday, cutting power to hundreds of customers.
The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the Ridgefield Public Service Electric & Gas substation, on the Hendricks Causeway just south of Route 46 and east of the New Jersey Turnpike, CBS2's Dave Biermann reported from Chopper 2.
A large piece of construction equipment called as pile driver – which is used to drive heavy metal poles into the ground – somehow flipped onto its side in a pile of loose dirt.
The pile driver came up onto the roadway and took down numerous power lines, Biermann reported.
About 260 customers were left without power in the area, and the outages were expected to last a couple of hours, Biermann reported.
One person suffered a minor injury in the accident.
