Ride Over For Paramus Park Mall Carousel

PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An iconic carousel at the Paramus Park Mall stopped spinning for good Monday night, leaving many children disappointed, CBS 2's Amy Dardashtian reported.

Parents and kids visited the mall Tuesday to say goodbye to the beloved Golden Horse Carousel, a mall staple for 37 years.

"It's like a landmark to us, and we'll always remember it," said Michael Kazigan, who was at the mall Tuesday with his dad, Robert.

"I was very upset because my kids, they've come here since they were little, and they love the carousel," added Marla Compa, of Paramus.

Jennifer Bratz, whose family owns the ride, said mall management revoked the carousel's lease, which came as a shock to its owners.

"The carousel's not included in what they're seeing for the future," Bratz said.

The mall did not say why it is severing ties with the merry-go-round, but said in a statement the spot will become "the new holiday home for Santa" and "though the carousel will no longer be at Paramus Park, the mall offers many other family-friendly amenities."

The carousel's owners said they have until the end of August to either sell the ride or relocate it. Until then, it will remain in the mall, but will not be in operation.
