Ride Like The Rich And Famous At The NY International Auto Show
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Cutting edge cars from around the world are on display at the annual New York International Auto Show.
From the tiniest cars, to those that drive themselves, to one offering 360-degree view outside. The flashiest of wheels that have yet to hit the showroom can be found at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center this week.
As CBS 2's Janelle Burrell reported, Gov. Andrew Cuomo opened up the New York Auto Show to the public on Saturday.
An immediate crowd favorite was the most luxurious Rolls Royce Wraight -- the fastest of the fleet, able to go from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.
But the real star of this car is its interior roof, Burrell reported.
"It's called the starlight headliner," said product specialist Christina Kollard.
The roof is equipped with 1,340 tiny fiber optic lights.
"You can get any constellation you want, so people get the constellation of the day they were married and stuff like that. If you wanted to get your face made out of stars you could do that," Kollard said.
So what's the starting price for this luxurious vehicle? About $300,000.
"Is that all? Well maybe I'll enter my business card in the fishbowl and win one at the end of the day," said Halworth, N.J. resident Andrew Rosenberg.
If you're really willing to splurge, check out the 1,200 horsepower Koenigsegg Agera R. Only 12 are made every year, each going for about $1.6 million.
Or if you're a true big spender, the most expensive car of the show, the Bugatti, has a price tag of $2.5 million.
And bringing a slice of Hollywood to New York were some of the stars from the upcoming "Transformers" movie.
"With the preview of the movie and the car, it's almost like being at a premiere," said Atlanta resident Roosevelt Brown.
To round out what's become one of the premiere car events in the Northeast, the auto show also features some good old American classics.
Cuomo presented a wounded war veteran with a special gift at the auto show: an honorary license plate for Army Specialist Robert Loria's new tricked out SUV, presented by Toyota.
Loria lost his left hand and sustained other wounds in a 2005 bombing in Iraq. His new 2014 Rav4 has a steering wheel knob suitable for a mechanical hand.
