Ribbon-Cutting Held At Grand Opening Of The Shops At Nanuet
NANUET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The Shops at Nanuet - the outdoor shopping complex on the site of the former Nanuet Mall - has opened to the public.
As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, the grand opening of the long-awaited shopping center is a major addition to Rockland County's retail landscape.
A ribbon-cutting was held Thursday morning to officially open the new shopping complex.

"Well, I don't consider this a mall," general manager Ryan Hidalgo told Haskell. "This is a open-air town center that has really kind of a different spin than a typical mall does."
The old Nanuet Mall, built in 1969, was demolished last year to make way for the new shopping center. The mall had struggled for years, due in large part to the nearby Palisades Center Mall.
"The center needed to change with the times and I think for where we are and I think for where we're going, this is the perfect atmosphere," Hidalgo said.

In addition to the anchor stores of Macy's and Sears, the Shops at Nanuet features several upscale stores like Coach and Michael Kors, restaurants, a 24 Hour Fitness, a Fairway market and a 12-screen movie theater.
Roughly 40 percent of the stores are not yet ready to open.
