Review: One In Ten NJ TRANSIT Buses Leave Late From Port Authority
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - If you take a NJ TRANSIT bus home from the Port Authority bus terminal, there is a greater than 10% chance you will be leaving late.
Spokesman John Durso said the transit agency cannot control all the factors causing the delays.

"It is widely acknowledged that it is beyond capacity and you have gate changes that do take place within the facility on a regular basis," Durso told WCBS 880's Jim Smith.
A review by the Wall Street Journal found that for the first half of this year 12% of NJ TRANSIT buses at the terminal are departing late. Durso said the agency is looking for solutions.
"Work further with the Port Authority to actually address these issues such as gate changes, such as lane assignments and and such as traffic," Durso told Smith.
A late departure is definited by the agency as five minutes or more past schedule.
"We get it. We understand that our customers are frustrated and concerned and rightly so," Durso said.
Durso said NJ TRANSIT is improving what it can control, such as better communication.
"Fully active Twitter account, additional transit alerts in addition to text messaging," Durso told Smith.
The two most frequently late lines are the 161 bus through Bergen County and 193 express line to suburban Wayne. Those were delayed a quarter of the time, according to the Wall Street Journal review.
