Police: Retired Nassau County Detective Hit By Car While Crossing Street, Killed
CARLE PLACE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A retired Nassau County police detective was killed after being hit by a car in Carle Place.
Retired Det. Joseph G. Skowronski, 65, was trying to cross Old Country Road around 3:40 p.m. Thursday when he was hit by a Nissan Maxima, police said.
Skowronski was pronounced dead the scene.
The 18-year-old driver of the Nissan remained on the scene and was not hurt. His car was impounded for brake and safety checks.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
