Restrooms, Concession Areas Among Additions Slated For Long Beach This Summer
LONG BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- New restrooms, concession areas and shaded tables will soon be coming to the Long Beach boardwalk.
Those who walk on the popular boardwalk, rebuilt after Superstorm Sandy, told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall the one thing it's missing is restrooms.
"We used to have bathrooms," said Barbara, who uses the boardwalk every day. " ... Last year, what they did was they put porta-potties along the way, and we had the food trucks in the area.

"If they rebuild, it's going to be better," she said of the restrooms. "They were pretty old and cruddy and dilapidated, the old ones. So I would look forward to that."
The new additions are expected to be constructed by the end of the summer at Lincoln, Riverside, Edwards, Grand and National boulevards. The project will cost nearly $9 million.
"Yeah, I think a lot of people come here in the summer, and they need to use the facilities," said Michael Holman, who also walks on the boardwalk every day. "If you don't have it, people aren't going to come and you're not going to have the tourism, then you won't have the money and then you won't have the tax base. I think it's very important that they maintain this beach and they keep it beautiful."
