Residents Celebrate With St. Patrick's Day Parades In Hoboken & Queens
NEW YORK (WCBS 880/1010 WINS) -- Two St. Patrick's Day parades took place in the Tri-State area on Saturday -- one in Hoboken and the other in Queens.
The mayor of Cork, Ireland joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg in Rockaway Beach on Saturday afternoon. Many, including WCBS 880's Sophia Hall, were on hand to enjoy the annual event featuring more than 26 bands and Saturday's pleasant weather.

Hall described parade goers dressed in green from head to toe along with shamrocks proudly displayed in the front windows of homes along the route.

One 7-year-old said she found the event to be "really fun."
"I like marching in the parade...and you get to see your family and have a lot of fun," she said.
The parade in Queens began at Newport Avenue and Beach 129th Street and ended at Beach 102nd Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard.
The other parade in Hoboken, New Jersey began at 1 p.m. Saturday at 14th and Washington streets and proceeded south to City Hall.

One Hoboken resident that spoke with 1010 WINS called the parade a "great time."
"A bunch of people just walking around, having a good time partying," he said.
Many families came out to enjoy the main event featuring a sea of green, marching bands and bagpipes. Following the parade, all bars in Hoboken opened their doors to patrons looking forward to a good time, 1010 WINS' Terry Sheridan reported.

Hoboken officials have set up a DWI checkpoint and made it a point of emphasis this year to institute a zero tolerance policy for certain violations.
Among the violations that could results in fines of up to $2,000 include: consumption of alcohol/open container in public, urinating in public, maintaining a nuisance (disorderly and unsafe house parties), disorderly conduct & improper behavior.
