Residents, Business Owners Concerned Over NYPD's Security Plan For WTC Site
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The strict security measures around the World Trade Center site are giving some lower Manhattan residents and small business owners cause for concern.
The preliminary plan for the site calls for barricades and four checkpoints for cabs, delivery trucks and private cars.
The checkpoints are proposed for Washington and Barclay streets; West Broadway and Barclay Street; Church and Liberty streets; and Liberty and West streets.

Portions of Vesey, Liberty, Church, Washington, and Greenwich Streets, as well as West Broadway, would also be closed to traffic.
The plan could potentially inconvenience residents who own a car and businesses that rely on daily deliveries.
Nick Travlos, owner of The Stage Door Deli on Vesey Street, said checkpoints and locked down streets are bad for business.
"I might not have products to sell if my vendors are having a tough time bringing supplies to the store," Travlos said, adding that barricaded streets, "might affect pedestrian traffic, vehicle traffic and scare people away."
Others in the area are understanding of the plan and say it's just a way of life.
"I choose to live in New York because I love New York and there is a certain price to pay that goes along with that and I just accept," Scott Bonne told WCBS 880's Sean Adams.
"We gotta be protected, you gotta take a lot of precautions," one deliveryman told 1010 WINS' John Montone.

"It'll be annoying to some people but on the flip side it's safe, it makes the area safe," one trucker said.
A public hearing on the plan will be held Wednesday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the New York City Department of Planning in Spector Hall, at 22 Reade St.
