Rescued Dog Escapes At NYC's JFK, Is Rescued Again
NEW YORK (AP) -- A 2-year-old golden retriever mix named Jazz is one lucky dog.
The pooch was rescued from a shelter in Taiwan where he faced certain death because dogs are killed there after seven days. He was flown to New York, but once at JFK Airport he escaped from his crate and bolted.
Jazz spent three days on the run at the airport before a team of Port Authority police officers corralled him Saturday.
Officer Randal Kraft says the dog's paws were ripped and bleeding. He was taken to a vet for treatment.
Joan Chien of Wilmington, Del. runs a dog rescue organization called Hopeful Hearts and will put Jazz up for adoption.
Kraft said Chien was "ecstatic'' when he called to tell her Jazz had been found.
