2 Workers Rescued Following Scaffold Collapse In Lower Manhattan
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - There were some terrifying moments Monday morning as rescue crews rushed to save two men hanging from a scaffolding in Lower Manhattan.
Video shows the moment two construction work clung for their lives from the scaffolding.
"When I came out I heard the screaming," said Agla Bjornsbottir. She was in the Brookfield Place when she heard the scaffolding collapse.
"It was like 'dum dum dum' going down. It was scary," she said.
The FDNY says reports of the scaffolding collapse on the 30th floor of a building at 250 Vesey and North End came in around 9 a.m. Crews rushed to the scene.
"The first company did a phenomenal job getting rope on them to secure them. We get them on fire department rope. We checked all the rigging and everything to the scaffold that they were on to make sure that wouldn't move any further. And then rescue on proceeded to secure the windows by taping them," said John Tobin of the FDNY.
The men clung in place for about 40 minutes. Fire crews used glass cutting equipment to remove the panels of glass and pull the men in.
"All the companies worked excellent together. Coordinated efforts just cannot be done by just one company," Tobin said.
The scaffolding was removed. Officials are investigating the cause of the collapse.
"Those guys are the best of the best. It's incredible," Bjornsbottir said.
Both workers that were on the scaffold were examined and refused medical attention.
