Reports: Yankees' Interest In Free Agent Torii Hunter Waning
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - According to the Daily News, the Yankees aren't likely to meet free agent outfielder Torii Hunter's demands of a two-year contract.
The 37-year-old is coming off a season where he batted .313 with 16 home runs and 92 RBIs in 140 games. He has reportedly drawn significant interest from the Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers and Atlanta Braves.
The Yankees appear the least willing to offer Hunter two-year deal.
Ichiro Suzuki is considered to be a cheaper option and could be more willing to accept a one-year deal. Suzuki enjoyed a resurgence in pinstripes as he batted .322 with five home runs and stole 14 bases in 67 games as a Yankee.
Detroit has been the most aggressive in negotiations and appear to be the frontrunners to sign Hunter, according to the Detroit Free Press. Reports have emerged that Hunter is expected to meet with the Tigers on Tuesday.
Texas are also in the mix, but their number one priority is to keep their focus on Josh Hamilton. The Braves remain a long-shot to sign Hunter.
