Reports: Thieves Targeting Urinal Screens In Brooklyn Bar Men's Room
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Some strange thieves reportedly have been targeting the men's room at a bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, stealing items that seemingly no one would even care to touch.
Reports this week in the Brooklyn Paper and the New York Daily News said thieves have struck Banter, located at 134 Havenmeyer St., on two separate occasions, taking plastic screens from the urinals in the men's room.
The urinal screens feature a tiny dangling soccer ball in front of a goal for men's amusement as they relieve themselves. They were purchased by the bar owners from a novelty website, the newspapers reported.
One of the urinal screens was taken in April, and another last month, the newspapers reported.
The European-style pub is popular with soccer fans, and co-owner Conor Carolan told the Brooklyn Paper that patrons had been so amused with the soccer-themed urinal screens that they were not writing graffiti on the walls anymore.
The owners said they will buy more of the urinal screens, but owner Chris Keller joked in the Daily News, "We have to put in cameras and watch everybody pee."
On the Facebook page for the bar, more than one patron called the thefts "gross."
Banter was not the only bar in Williamsburg where the restrooms have been targeted lately. Earlier in the spring, a thief stole a brass toilet seat from Lighthouse BK on Bourquinen Place, the newspapers reported.
Thieves have also been making off with tampons and toilet paper at Frankie's Deli on Humboldt Street, the paper reported.
