Reports: Matt Simms To Start In Jets' Preseason Finale
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Matt Simms will start at quarterback for the New York Jets in Thursday's preseason finale, according to multiple reports.
Simms will "play most, if not all, of the game" against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium, the New York Post reported.
Incumbent starter Mark Sanchez and rookie Geno Smith have been locked in a competition for the starting job. Sanchez injured his shoulder after Rex Ryan's much-discussed decision to insert the quarterback late in Saturday's game against the New York Giants. A healthy Smith will reportedly sit out against the Eagles.
Greg McElroy, in a battle with Simms for No. 3 on the depth chart, is also unavailable after re-injuring his left knee at practice, the Post reported.
Graham Harrell could see some playing time behind Simms with New York reportedly agreeing to terms with the former Green Bay Packers backup.
