Reports: Big Ten Looking To Expand, Eying Rutgers
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Multiple reports have emerged that the Big Ten is looking to expand and are eying up Rutgers and Maryland to expand their conference to the East Coast.
Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany is believed to be in advanced talks over the possibility of adding Rutgers from the Big East and Maryland from the ACC. Should Rutgers and Maryland join the Big Ten, the division would expand to 14 teams.
Rutgers are currently the Big East leaders with an overall record of 9-1 and a 5-0 conference record after defeating Cincinnati 10-3 on Saturday.
If Rutgers were to move out of the Big East and into the Big Ten, they would be the ninth Big East team since 2004 to leave the conference. Rutgers was one of the founding members of the Big East in 1979.
