Reports: 49ers' Gamble Is Favorite To Become Next Jets GM
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Various reports have San Francisco 49ers' director of player personnel Tom Gamble as the New York Jets' top candidate to replace fired general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
The Jets interviewed Gamble on Saturday and he is considered to the leading candidate to become the Jets' next GM. They interviewed David Caldwell of the Falcons organization on Friday and are also planning to interview Marc Ross of the Giants organization on Monday.
Gamble cancelling a second interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars is seen as a major sign of his seriousness in wanting to become the Jets GM.
Inside NFL circles, Gamble is considered a draft expert and prefers a run-heavy offense similar to Rex Ryan. He has spent 24 years in the NFL, seven with the 49ers.
Gamble has a close connection to Ryan. He and Ryan have known each other for over two decades and both of their fathers worked for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Jets targeted Eric DeCosta of the Baltimore Ravens organization early in the process, but DeCosta had no interest in interviewing for the job.
Would Gamble be an ideal fit for Gang Green? Let us know...
