Yankees, Brian Roberts Agree On 1-Year Deal
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Yankees are still patching together their infield following the departure of second baseman Robinson Cano to the Seattle Mariners.
The latest piece of the puzzle: former Orioles infielder Brian Roberts, who has agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the Yankees, according to WFAN and CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman. The contract will include incentives, Heyman reported.
Roberts hit .249 with eight home runs and 39 RBIs in 77 games last season. The oft-injured 36-year-old played in only 192 games from 2010-13.
A two-time All-Star, Roberts has a career .278 average over 13 seasons, all with Baltimore.
The Yankees are also considering infielders Mark Reynolds (.220, 21 HRs, 67 RBIs in 135 games) and Michael Young (.279, eight HRs, 46 RBIs in 147 games), according to Heyman.
New York signed Brendan Ryan and Kelly Johnson earlier this offseason.
