A 58-year-old man – identified as the woman's husband – was arrested at the scene, police said.
The husband, Ian Robinson, 58, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon Sunday evening.
While a police report on the incident said the cause of the woman's death had not been determined, the newspaper reported the woman was stabbed and her head was partially severed.
As 1010 WINS' Gene Michaels reported, Robinson's cousin, Joan, grew up with her and they were very close.
"My relative called and let me know, and I had just come in from church when a relative let me know that she was murdered; she was stabbed to death," Joan said.
Joan confirmed that Robinson's husband had been arrested. But she said she did not live in the area and had not seen signs of trouble with him.
Joan described her cousin as a very hard worker, and had fond memories of growing up with her. She said of all people, Robinson did not deserve to die in such a fashion.
