Report: Widespread Safety Violations Popped Up In Sandy's Aftermath
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - There were thousands of construction violations cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration during the superstorm Sandy clean up effort but very few penalties handed out.
An investigation from the New York Daily News found 3,100 cases of unsafe job conditions in neighborhoods in New York City, New Jersey and Long Island.
As workers rushed to get things back to normal after Sandy, some just ignored the rules.

As WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported, the investigation found 7,900 workers were exposed to hazards. Some contractors ignored rules even after being warned, according to the report.
Some workers were fixing roofs without fall protection while others were in polluted flood waters without boots, Kosola reported.
Two workers died in Sandy-related construction accidents.
Only 32 violations resulted in fines, Kosola reported.
