Report: Tim Tebow Won't Be Thursday's Mystery Speaker At RNC
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Jets owner -- and outspoken Mitt Romney backer -- Woody Johnson says there's no such thing as "too much Tebow."
Apparently that doesn't apply to the Republican National Convention.
Rumors have been swirling since Monday about the identity of Thursday's mystery speaker in Tampa. Will it be Tim Tebow? Clint Eastwood? Johnson himself?
Well, scratch the Jets backup quarterback off the list, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported on Thursday.
"I've been told Tim Tebow will be at Jets-Eagles gm tonight," Mehta tweeted. "He isn't going to speak at the Republican National Convention (as rumored)."
The Jets will play their final preseason game in Philadelpha on Thursday night, and coach Rex Ryan said he plans on resting the majority of his starters. With Tebow expected to sit, speculation about whether he'd show up at the RNC reached a fever pitch.
"Tim Tebow would be amazing," one convention goer told Fox News.
On Wednesday, Johnson gushed over Tebow and insisted he has "tremendous confidence" in an offense that has failed to score a touchdown in three preseason games.
"I think you can never have too much Tebow," he told CNBC, according to the Daily News.
He added: "We'd like to score a touchdown, that's for sure. ... They're all great players. I think we'll get the job done."
