Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show To Feature... Madonna?
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- How can the NFL top last year's Super Bowl entertainment?
There was the widely-panned performance by the Black Eyed Peas at halftime. Not to mention Alex Rodriguez's impromptu hand-fed popcorn moment.
Well, how about Madonna for 2012?
According to a report from SBNation, Madge will headline the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show in Indianapolis on February 5.
Booking Madonna would be a slight about-face by the NFL. The league hasn't featured an edgy performer for their marquee title game since Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" mess in 2004.
Paul McCartney took the stage in 2005. Since then we've seen The Rolling Stones ('06), Prince ('07), Tom Petty ('08), Bruce Springsteen ('09), The Who ('10) and the Black Eyed Peas ('11). Usher and Slash also performed last year.
Looking at that list, sure, even an aging Material Girl would the most exciting act since Jackson and Justin Timberlake.
But would she be a hit with die-hard football fans?
"Call me crazy," Jimmy Traina from SI.com's Hot Clicks tweeted on Monday, "but I dont think many fans, after seeing the 50-plus old Madonna will say, 'What a killer performance of Lucky Star.'"
An NFL spokesman declined to comment.
