Police: Single Serial Killer Responsible For All Gilgo Beach Murders
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Suffolk County police say they have settled on a theory about the remains of ten people found along the south shore of Long Island over the past year.

Investigators say they believe a single serial killer is responsible for all ten murders and that the suspect may be from Long Island.

In the year since body parts were discovered along Ocean Parkway, detectives have repeatedly combed the area and sifted through hundreds of tips.
The remains include eight women, a man and a toddler, some dating back to 1995.
Investigators say all of the victims, including the child, are somehow connected to the sex trade.
"Because of the dumping ground, the sex trade business, the dismemberment, we have people in the police department that have other theories, but we are leaning towards that theory," Suffolk County Police Chief Richard Dormer told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.
Police have said in the past that a serial killer may have been responsible for at least four of the murders, but had said they weren't sure how many suspects they might be dealing with.
In September, police released two sketches of victims.
The first was of a Jane Doe with prominent cheekbones and jaw line. Her remains were found in two separate locations along ocean parkway in April.
Investigators also released a drawing of an Asian male dressed in women's clothing who police say may have been working as a prostitute.
Police are still sorting through computer and phone records hoping to find the serial killer before another victim turns up.
"Studying serial killers, we know they go through a cooling off period where they don't commit any crimes," said Dormer. "We don't know what happened to this guy."
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the deaths, the highest reward in Suffolk County history.
