Report: Robinson Cano Being Investigated By MLB About Potential Link To Biogenesis
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Cano, don't ya know?
You might not want to know this, Yankees fans.
Superstar second baseman Robinson Cano is being investigated by Major League Baseball about ... what else? ... potential ties to the Biogenesis clinic in Miami, according to ESPN.
The Biogenesis clinic has been linked to performance-enhancing drugs. In January, the Miami New Times reported that Alex Rodriguez, among other big leaguers, was listed in Biogenesis' records.
Sonia Cruz, a spokeswoman for the four-time All-Star's foundation, was allegedly listed as a client of Biogenesis last summer, according to the network.
Cano addressed reporters on Monday and basically waved the reported investigation off as a non-story.
"It doesn't have anything to do with me," the 30-year-old said. "...I know what I'm doing and I know myself. I'm going to play my game. I didn't see what the story said but I have no comment."
According to ESPN, Cruz owed the anti-aging clinic $300 in July and August of 2012. The spokesman told ESPN that the two-time Gold Glove Award winner "definitely never did" purchase products from the clinic.
"I met with a nurse who works for the clinic, but I met her outside the clinic just to talk to her about a diet program they have for women," Cruz told ESPN. "I never went through with it once she explained what it was. I thought it was just a diet/nutritional thing, but it was diet, nutrition, pills and stuff."
Cano is off to a hot start for the shorthanded Yankees in 2013, batting .324 with five home runs and 13 RBIs. He's posted a .385 on-base percentage and has ripped six doubles. Set to be a free agent after the 2013 campaign, the 2009 World Series champion parted ways with agent Scott Boras earlier this month and joined forces with Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports.
On April 12, it was reported that A-Rod bought Biogenesis documents with the intent to either destroy or leak them.
A spokesman for the 14-time All-Star denied the allegations.
