Report: Rangers' Sean Avery Won't Face Charges In Cop-Shove Case
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Rangers agitator Sean Avery will reportedly get off "skate" free for an incident that took place at his Hollywood home earlier this month.
TMZ first reported that Avery was arrested in the early hours of August 5 for shoving a police officer who was attempting to break up a raucous party at his home in California.
The 31-year-old Rangers star allegedly answered for police, knocked an officer out of the way and then slammed the front door. Avery answered a second time and cooperated with police — but was still arrested for suspicion of battery on an officer.
Avery was released later that day after posting $20,000 bail.
Now, according to TMZ, Avery will be cleared of all charges.
Why? Well, TMZ's new report states that "a further investigation revealed" the cop was never pushed at all. The reporting officer apparently instead had his foot caught in Avery's door.
"No criminal charges of any kind will be filed," a law enforcement source told the site.
The Los Angeles City Attorney may meet with Avery, reported TMZ, and is expected to "officially close the case" without prosecution.
