Report: Rangers-Flyers Winter Classic Confirmed; HBO's '24/7' Also In Cards
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The upcoming 2012 Winter Classic between the Rangers and Flyers was first reported in May. Now it's been confirmed -- reportedly.
The Rangers will skate in the open air of Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park against the Flyers on January 2.
"When NHL schedule is released, confirmed that Rangers will be in Philly for ... Winter Classic," the New York Post's Larry Brooks tweeted on Tuesday.
Also according to Brooks, the Rangers will take part in HBO's "24/7." Last year, the show chronicled the Pittsburgh Penguins' rivalry and road to the Winter Classic against the Washington Capitals.
This year, Rangers fans will get to see outspoken coach John Tortorella unplugged.
So why is the league holding the game on Monday, January 2, instead of the customary New Year's Day?
"The NHL does not want to go head-to-head with NFL games on Jan. 1, including an Eagles game at Lincoln Financial Field," the Philadelphia Inquirer reported last month.
