Protester Claims MLB Employee Threw Coffee At Him Outside A-Rod's Hearing
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Supporters of Alex Rodriguez rallied outside his suspension hearing on Tuesday, and one man said he was assaulted.
Hispanics Across America President Fernando Mateo told 1010 WINS that he was trying to move a barricade when a woman who works for Major League Baseball told him not to.
"I tried to organize some barricades, and as I was moving one, one of the Major League Baseball female employees grabbed a barricade and said, 'You can't touch it,'" Mateo said. "So when I jerked on the barricade, she got upset and took her cup of coffee and threw it at me."
Yep, that's right. When he continued, he claims that she threw coffee at him. And when he jumped to try to avoid it, he pulled a muscle in his back.
"We want her fired, and we want an explanation as to why we have to be assaulted by their employees, simply because we're peacefully trying to demonstrate and get our voices heard," Mateo said.
Mateo says he went to the hospital after the incident. His blood pressure was up.
"You can't ruin this man's career with suspending him 211 games," Mateo said in regard to Rodriguez. "We believe that (Yankees President) Randy Levine and the Yankees are behind this, trying to get out of their $100 million debt that they have with this athlete."
When asked to comment, MLB referred 1010 WINS to the NYPD, which said it is investigating.
