Official: Pettitte's One-Year Deal To Return To Yankees Finalized
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The Yankees announced on Wednesday afternoon they've have finalized a one-year deal worth $12 million with veteran starter Andy Pettitte.
According to the Daily News, Pettitte may also earn an additional $2.5 million in bonuses in 2013.
It's a big raise for Pettitte, who earned a base contract of $2.5 million in 2012 after deciding to come out of retirement.
The news will delight Yankees fans who enjoyed Pettitte's unexpected return to the Bronx last season.
Pettitte battled injuries including a broken ankle in 2012 and finished the regular season with a 5-4 record and ERA of 2.87. The 40-year-old made 12 regular season starts and pitched in 2 playoffs starts before the Yankees were eliminated by the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS.
Having seen Hiroki Kuroda re-sign earlier this off-season, the Yankees' 2013 starting rotation will closely resemble last year's rotation.
In addition, legendary closer Mariano Rivera is expected to complete a deal with the Yankees in the near future. General Manager Brian Cashman is also hoping to re-sign outfielder Ichiro Suzuki and catcher Russell Martin.
